There are certain people who sell herbal drinks known as "àgbo" in Nigeria. They stay in strategic places where they are easily accessible to people. Àgbo is popular amongst men, particularly men who does manual labor and few white collar job workers who knows its importance. People take it for different reasons such as to reduce sugar level, reduce back pain, fever, infections etc. Women also are not left out. Most women who take it use it to reduce their menstrual pain.

In Nigeria, we are blessed with various kinds of medicinal plants and these plants are used for making traditional medicines to cure various diseases and infections among others. Before the invention of modern medicine, our forefathers uses herbal medicine to cure diseases. I grew up to know you can cook different leaves together, pour the water in a big bowl and cover your body with a thick cloth while bending down. It is for your body to consume the heat of the herbs and make you sweat heavily. When you sweat you discharge any form of ailment in your body such as cough, malaria, typhoid etc. You'd be served a hot cup filled with the herbs to drink too.

In making herbal medicine some parts of certain plants are used while in some cases the whole body of the plant is useful. It depends on the type of plant in question. Some you have to scrap the back of a tree such as mango, guava, cashew etc.

Drinking herbs or cooking with it prevents a lot of diseases such as diseases of the heart, diabetes and cancer. It also reduces blood clots and provide the human body with anti-inflammatory properties.

A lot of studies have proven that garlic helps to reduce cholesterol in the body as well as to regulate blood pressure. Onions, mint and garlic are also proven to protect the body against cancer. Herbs generally have high quality of antioxidants they help to reduce or get rid of unhealthy cholesterol in the body. It is advisable to use more of fresh herbs rather than processed/dry ones because they are more active and effective.

I think its great to learn new things from other countries like yours being Nigeria.
The ago doesnt look attractive but it looks like coffee. I can imagine its difficult to get the bag closed

Agbo has a coffee-like color, really. It's quite bitter too. If you look closely you'd see a white bucket beside the bucket of agbo - there are peppered meat inside. Pepper is believed to reduce bitterness in the mouth. So, you could buy a piece of peppered meat if you feel the agbo is too bitter for you. It's quite optional.

I'm glad you learnt something new 😁.

I'm really appreciating how Covid-19 is enabling many African countries to show the effectiveness of their herbal cultures.

We just have to embrace the natural way. Thanks for your time
