Well, it's been almost 2 weeks since I started germination with these 4 seeds. Read more about that here.
I went for the paper towel method, which hasn't failed me, yet. But it seems it's testing my patience.
They might be duds, or they might just be too old to germinate. BUT, we're not giving up. Not by a long shot. If I set my mind to something, I usually don't rest till I have completed that something.
So I went online looking for alternative germination methods specifically for old marijuana seeds. And you just gotta love the internet, because the 4th search result already had the answer. Asket and yea shall receivet.
Within a few seconds I had my new method, which is soaking them overnight in warm water.
Check out what my source had to say:
Another method to germinate marijuana seeds is to soak them overnight in slightly warm water, usually done in a glass drinking cup.
This method is especially effective for seeds which have extra hard shells, or seeds which are older (more than a few years old).
The warm overnight soaking can help “wake up” older seeds.
Most viable seeds will start out floating, and then eventually sink to the bottom of your glass after a few hours of soaking.
If soaked in a clear drinking glass, you will see when the little white tap root first breaks through the shell.
Well then, that's perfect for our situation. So I took the remaining seeds, warmed a bit of water and threw it all in a glass. It's sinks or germinate now. I also remember @justinparke telling me about this method recently, so I'm sure it will have at least a chance of working.
So now we wait some more for 24 hours.
The seeds in the paper towel haven't gone bad. So they might surprise us later when we least expect it. I will keep monitoring those as well.
I'm also working on finding a local source for good seeds of good strains.
Whatever happens now, my inner ganja farmer is ready to go.
